Sea Fans are Octocorals

This common Sea Fan is an Octocorals. They are large coolonies of animals that grow in a single plane creating the appearance of an asia hand fan. In fact they are effective filters, helping the colony members catch drifting organisms that the corals feed upon. Many sea fans are scattered about the snorkeling park at Pinel.
